Welcome.
I’m so happy to be able to be writing this, even though it’s simply thanking you for being here. I’ve worked so hard my whole life going down one path of my career while always secretly have been chasing my love for interior work. One silver lining of the pandemic, I realized just how much time at home I had to do something. There were no festivals, no new restaurants to go out and try, no birthday parties, no live entertainment or trips. It was me, my family and the quiet.
I stopped listening to those undermining voices that told me that I’m too old to switch careers, not good enough to compete with other designers, too much going on to get it done. I squashed the inner saboteur and I fed myself with positive reinforcement that I could do it. I could do anything I set my mind to, and I really wanted this.
After completely my Interior Design Certification from New York Institute of Art and Design in just eight months (it’s an eighteen month course), I started doing it. I started painting things, documenting my work, asking to help with friends’ and families’ projects and most importantly, I started to put myself out there. I started with my own home, a few months lead time before we moved in actually really helped me because I could space plan, design and purchase everything and most of it ended up getting delivered just after move in day. Six weeks to the day of living here and I only have a few pieces left that need to be delivered.
The two-week primary bathroom renovation has now taken two months but it sounds like next week will be the end of it. Tub has finally been found on a shipping crate at some harbor, the vanity stone has finally been able to be scheduled for installation and the glass shower door can be installed after the bench slab gets in. Can’t wait to share that special project! Until then, thank you for being here, your support is everything.
